Tips from James over the holidays
YOU HAVE THEM AGAINST THE ROPES
- or even not against the ropes
-dont let the reach out, frame you
-or if they just reach out to punch
-you trap their arm with 1 or 2 arms and your body weight
-this worked great even just moving around, not against the wall, ropes, whatever
DONT COVER UP AND PLANT YOUR FEET WHEN DEFENDING
- make sure you can see
-piviot out. Pivot swinging back leg out. Getting front leg involves is unnecessary and takes up energy.
MIX OFFENSE AND DEFENSE
-i think this is for the toe to toe exchanges
-dont be all defense or all offense
-think defense while throwing some offense

they shell up or stand in place doing head movement
if they shell up to protect their face, you have some options
1. trap hand, peel, and punck/elbow/knee
2. body kick or low kick
3. angle off to the side (marvin cook vid)
if they stand in place to do head movement
*i already had the idea to hit body or kick legs but i wasn't executing because i think 1. i was too far away or 2. off balance
*per marvin cook vid, trying to punch head while they are standing in place doing head movement is a stupid game. its stupid for him because what he needs to do is move his hip/entire body away from you. otherwise, it's just a target. its stupid for you if you keep trying to chase his head because he's able to defend from that specific distance.
*what you need to do is take a step or half-step in, then punch either to head or body

Tip from Daniel yesterday
About cross blocking to clinch
Instead of doing regular leg checks and fighting at long range,
I can do cross check and step forward into clinch.
So good.
Some good combos
From freestyle pad work in chucks class. Tall white guy w beard.
*r kick, h, 2, l kick
*l kick, 2, h, r kick
*1, r knee, l elbow
*2, l knee, r elbow
*1, 2, slip to right, r upper, h, 2
______
* chuck said I was turning my lead foot inward when throwing the 2. Obviously not good mechanics. Should be facing forward or out.
*dont swing pad when holding for hook. Just hold it by face.

evading the right hand
the way we practiced it was off defending his 1,2. we parried the 1.
then for the 2 we either
- step diagonally backright 45 degrees
- step straight back (if cant do 45)
-slip to the left side

some stuff from kru mark
combo
R up elb (or straight elb), L inside kick, R low kick
he was also saying that if you do the inside kick a lot, they may step out, in which case your good angle for R low kick. oh i think this was a counter to a 1,2. they might step out with the 2 if you keep doing the inside kick.
from that one on one:
how he had me training kicks
knee up and then my leg was horizontal, parallel to the ground
he said this was the way he trained to kick the bricks or whatever on his birthday video
combo on the heavy bag i will like
1,2, L elb, L backhandclear, R elb, R backhandclear, grab bag, R knee, L knee
using the double end bag
-work on turning shoulders more and head movement
-not hard punches, not fully extended punches
-just stay close, turn your shoulders, short punches, elbows, head movement
using that thing for the hooks, punches, and knees
-not power shots
-work on speed, retraction, and keeping elbows in
