diagnoal kick
-if body is open (elbows out)
-prone to elbows to shin contact if elbows are in. ouch.
horizontal kick
-"breaking the shell" (i think. cuz this written long after the class).
-if elbows are tucked in protecting their body
multiple kicks
-don't bring your kicking leg all the way back to normal fight stance cuz it's too slow
catching a kick and dumping them
-step inside, turn your outside shoulder inside, lift up, put your free hand on knee, and dump them forward
-you can take 2 steps forward max or it's called plowing, which is illegal in muay thai rules
-it's like an ankle lock grip
-it's like a reverse 1/x (the graph) motion
-so for example if he uses his right leg to kick my left side: my left hand catches, i step to the right, i rotate my body to the right after i catch, and i push him with left hand on his knee
-note: you turn your body if they do a diagonal kick without much body turn. cuz you need to turn them to get them unbalanced and to where they can't hit you.
-BUT: if they did a horizontal kick and they turned their hips over good, then you don't need to turn your body. because they are already turned. turning your body would just make dumping them harder because of the leverage.

kicks and knees
by erik the saturday guy
leg checks
-he had us warming up doing checks on each side
-your guard stays up, and your knee comes up
-he said you can lower your elbows/guard if you need to for blocking a little bit lower, but don't crunch your body down or your head can get kicked
throwing the right hand
-you should rotate to the point that your shoulder comes up to protect your chin
-you don't shrug your shoulder up
-the proper motion will raise your shoulders into the correct position
throwing the right kick
-the rotation motion is the same as throwing a right cross
-i needed to actually step out to make the correct angle and it felt better
-you lose power if you lean back on the kicks
switch kick
-switch should be short
-something about it can be a long switch but you have to be farther away
-(i'm writing this way after it happened so not remembering it all)
-i think if you switch too long you'll be too close or you'll have to lean back or something
-you don't want to lean back when you kick. he gave reasons but i don't remember.
the drill he had us do
-was throwing right hand, right kick
-left hand, left kick
-i think the point was that it should feel like the same motion
multiple speed kicks
-use your hands to pump so you dont have to use your (legs? body?) as much
knees
-if they pressure their way into you
-you bring the kneeing arm up and then down to your waist
-the reason is not because you need to pull them in. (but u can). it's to protect your face from strikes.
-so if i'm doing a right knee and they're pressuring forward into me: parry with left hand (maybe step back with left foot too) >> bring right hand up and right foot back >> right knee
-he said throwing the knee is the same motion as throwing a kick

rear leg kick
by marvin
3 types
-upward
-horizontal
-downward
setups for the 3 types
-the loading setup is complementary to the trajectory of the kick
-jab > upward
-hook > horizontal
-lead uppercut > downward
upward
-fastest
-quickest to recover back to fighting stance
-least powerful
downward
-the opposite of above
horizontal
-in between up/down

teep
by marvin
when ao8 was in that transition before becoming tbc
teep
-rechamber the teep unless you're stepping forward with it on purpose
-the front teep is shorter range than rear teep because base is the rear foot
-the rear teep is longer range because the base becomes the front foot
countering the teep
-there's the swipe like kru mark taught and the catch
swipe
-that's not the actual name i just dont know what to call it
-only swipe from the elbow down; keep your guard up
-you swipe with the diagonal hand. so your left hand would swipe their left foot. wouldn't matter if they did a lead or rear teep.
-you swipe and always lead their leg across their body
following up after the swipe
-whatever side your loaded on you follow up with a punch or a kick. so if i swipe with my right hand, to my right side, i follow up with a cross or a right kick
catch
-you catch like a football, one hand on top and one on bottom
-then you toss his leg across his body
-then you follow up like you did with the swipe

right cross
coach chuck reminded me the other week to push off the ground with the right foot
it does feel stronger and more solid that way

Tips from James over the holidays
YOU HAVE THEM AGAINST THE ROPES
- or even not against the ropes
-dont let the reach out, frame you
-or if they just reach out to punch
-you trap their arm with 1 or 2 arms and your body weight
-this worked great even just moving around, not against the wall, ropes, whatever
DONT COVER UP AND PLANT YOUR FEET WHEN DEFENDING
- make sure you can see
-piviot out. Pivot swinging back leg out. Getting front leg involves is unnecessary and takes up energy.
MIX OFFENSE AND DEFENSE
-i think this is for the toe to toe exchanges
-dont be all defense or all offense
-think defense while throwing some offense

they shell up or stand in place doing head movement
just some ideas from various things i've seen in various places
if they shell up to protect their face, you have some options
1. trap hand, peel, and punck/elbow/knee
2. body kick or low kick
3. angle off to the side (marvin cook vid)
if they stand in place to do head movement
*i already had the idea to hit body or kick legs but i wasn't executing because i think 1. i was too far away or 2. off balance
*per marvin cook vid, trying to punch head while they are standing in place doing head movement is a stupid game. its stupid for him because what he needs to do is move his hip/entire body away from you. otherwise, it's just a target. its stupid for you if you keep trying to chase his head because he's able to defend from that specific distance.
*what you need to do is take a step or half-step in, then punch either to head or body
