"Hand-Trapping: Creating Angles & Openings in MMA"
i like this. i need to incorporate this into my game asap.
1. from long guard, just put your hands on top of theirs, and come in close with an elbow
-or can follow up with kicks
2. they do boxing shell guard
*step in and control the wrists from the outsides. several options.
---pivot to rt
*******rt elbow
*******knees
*******body shots
---flying knee to body
*step in and control the triceps
---pivot to rt
*dutch trap: step in and opposite hand pulls opposite shell hand down
---follow up with right hook (if you grabbed with left hand)
********if they pull hnad back up >> right hook to body
********saw another video on long guard where instead of hook, follow up with side elbow

some fakes that i can incorporate right away
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VX4GNEQvoZE
"6 of my favourite "FAKES" to strengthen your striking game (Real Time Sparring Footage)"
1. fake push kick
-you try to get them to lower hands to brush your teep
-hop fwd to left hook, follow up with right low kick
2. fake right kick
-you try to get them to lead leg check
-step fwd with right and throw a right hook, follow up with left high kick
-OR MY IDEAS
**fake right kick >> rt cross/overhand >> lt hook/elbow
**fake right kick >> tyson combo: step fwd rt hook to body, left neck grab, right uppercut
see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YPa6pGPL6E "Mike Tyson Combo in Peekaboo #004a: right hook to the body - right uppercut to the head"
**fake right kick >> tyson combo: step fwd rt hook to body, left hook to head
see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k18nmyD8UHQ "Mike Tyson- Right hook body-Left Hook head"
3. fake a right cross
-you try to get them to put their hands up to defend head
-throw a right kick
4. fake anything (against a counterfighter)
-you take a small step and fake an attack to get them to (counter)attack
-you anticipate this and counter their counter

some clinch stuff from daniel the other day
basically be aware of elbows
-so when pummeling, you control the elbow from the outside before snaking it in
-if there arm is over yours, you raise your elbow to keep connection with them so they can't elbow you
-not r/t elbows: there's the face push and also the x-push
some other ideas from various videos
-clinch coming in from frame / long guard / blocks
-clinch coming in with a fake teep where you lift knee up and then hop in and clinch
-clinching with an overhook (like my overhook guard from bjj)
-clinching with arm triangle
-for full plum, squeeze your elbows together and make sure your elbows/forearms are on his chest so he can't close the distance on you for takedown or to go hip to hip
-if they have one arm on your neck, you can do
*"wax off" to clear it.
*or do "wax off" to grab their neck.
*or do "wax off" to push their chest. I personally wouldnt bench them maybe arm to chest and step away
*or another one that's my idea is you can "wax off" to overhook clinch control
-if they do push face defense, you can pop their arm up and over and get arm triangle control
-for plum
*have hands overlapped and maybe wrists crossed over
*using head as a third appendage is very helpful
*push your elbows into their chest
-come in from long blocking / framing to double bicep control to knee
-if your arms are over theirs, you can throw elbows
-if their arms are over yours grabbing your neck
*you can comb your hair to break their grip
*you can squeeze your hand in just enough to get inside bicep control
-if you have outside bicep control, you can throw side elbow
-when you have plum and you pivot, you pull them down not horizontal
-if they reach one arm to grab in, you can get outside elbow control and do an up elbow on the free side

frame (long guard?) defense
from tristar youtube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNbkEJPZ3LA
muay thai frame defense
i think this type of long guard makes more sense to me and what i'll rely on most.
of course, like mmmatt says, i think i'll mix up my defense styles though so the opponent doesn't figure out my defense.
this guard is good for hooks, overhands, uppercuts, elbows, and knees
he says the tight boxing guard defense (what i use the most) is ok but doesn't protect you from elbows and knees. the frame defense allows you to block them at a distance.
the way he does it is the lead hand (left hand) always extends straight
-shoves his punching shoulder
-point your elbow up (protects punches higher than chin)
what changes is what your right hand/arm does
-a punch to my left side: right hand goes over my left eyebrow
-a punch to my right side: basic comb your hair catch on the right temple/ear
-an uppercut: bring arm in close to body and let him uppercut your elbow

using the head
head is the 9th weapon (in addition to the 8 limbs). more muay boran / self defense.
to headbutt
-lower your head and ram your forehead into their nose
-you don't cock your head back like a pro wrestler
to block straight punches
-lower your head and let them hit the top of the forehead
-it was hurting my hands jabbing spiderman boxer's head. in a streetfight, i think this is a destruction defense because they would probably hurt their hands if they tried to hit your head hard

teep, knees, and combos he wants me to work tonight
teep
-hitting with whole foot or ball of foot is ok
-he likes to hit with ball but then push away like stepping on gas pedal
-drill on the heavy bag is one explosive kick with pauses between reps. i think he said quick like a jab or maybe he said quickly like they're about to jab you then you kick
knees
-thrust hips forward like so that you thrust hips then the knee follows a little but then you'd have to raise the knee a little more for it to be a knee
-point your toes
-steering wheel toward the knee
-keep your chin down
combos for tonight
these combos are to mix up the game
ie, you do the 1,2 then he starts to think 12 so then you do 1,kick cuz he expected punches to head, then when he thinks you might kick he blocks so you add the 2 to the head cuz he's focused on leg kick
1. 1, 2
2. 1, right kick
3. 1, right kick but he blocks, 2 (as your leg comes down)

a lot of cool stuff from julian (bob marley) yesterday
# 1 - 6
1. they jab, right hook. >> you straight elbow, then use the same elbow hand to downward scoop, step in and grab the neck (at the same time), pull the neck like a steering wheel, knee them in the gut
-#6 is based off number 1
2. they jab, right hook >> you straight elbow, then
DEALING WITH GETTING CLINCHED
-there are 3 phases:
1. preventing before they can tie up
2. dealing when tied up and pummeling but not full on clinch
3. they have secured the clinch
1. preventing clinch
-when he's reaching you guide arm out of the way
-if he's taller than you push up first and then guide arms out of the way
-it's like a 45 degree pivot
-you don't overextend your arms but you don't keep them super tight to your body either
-your pivot (in place) foot is the one on the side you'll step to, your step out foot rotates to the side you'll end up on
-your loaded for a knee or kick after pivoting out
2. pummelling
-turn like a steering wheel
3. secured clinch
-drop your center of gravity, get your hips close together, put your knee behind one of his, and twist him to trip over it
-epiphany about getting the hips close together, it's not about squeezing his back into you but more about moving your hips close to his
-just right now i'm thinking, if you drop your hips low, then your body can get under his and you can use that to kind of drive him up and unbalanced backward which would also make the bear hug squeezing him into you a lot easier as well as getting your hips closer to him
-don't back up because that make you vulnerable to knees. if you can see your feet, you can get kneed.
THE END GAME
is not to slug it out. it is to unbalance (and sweep?) your opponent.
in battlefield times, it was not about slugging it out, it was getting the guy on the ground, being able to stay aware of surroundings, and move on.
