Kick defense and some other stuff

Kru Mark's class

If they kick your lower leg
-like area from knee to ankle
-just lift lower leg up like heel to butt
-after, you step in closer to him

If they kick upper leg to hip
- leg check

If they kick higher up the torso
- you absorb it
-arm on side if kick does the catch guard like blocking a hook or right in boxing
-other hand either 1) blocks it or 2) overlooks it or 3) under hooks it
-my partner the chubby mixed thai looking guy said for 2 and 3 that you catch it then push them away and follow up with your own kick

---

If they catch your kick
- clinch their head with both hands and knee them in the head

Kru said when we spar, fight don't play tag. Don't run away, move your body side to side.

If they crowd you,
-my partner said, well he didn't use these words, but basically you outstretch one arm and the other arm kind of crosses it or goes on outstretched forearm and you push them away. I think that's the long guard.

Some basics from kru mark

Knee
*in a street fight, aim for the knees because if you go for torso, the guy might have a belt buckle you hurt yourself on or they might have a big belly and your knee won't do damage.

*the only time you knee high is if you bring their head down

Combos for the heavy bag
*1,2, l kick, l kick
*1,2,H, r kick, r kick

Kicks
*pivot on balls of feet, turn shoulders over
*the hand that stretches out, ie the same side arm as your kick, is like you are punching to the side of their body

Some bad ass drills from mt tech class

Person throws 12

Person throws 12
Teep,  body kick

Person throws 12
Catch 1, throw right body kick as you slip 2, hook, right body kick

It's been so long but basically the pad holder has them do some offense then some defense then more offense.

Thus is from the 7am fundamentals s class

Kicking after the punch

Per the mt pad guy

You kick as you're bringing back the punch

I forgot how he phrased it but basically your loaded to kick if you do it that way. Not so much though  if you return to stance, pause, and then kick.

From the last couple at Tiger

Yes kru = chai kru
No kru = mai kru

I forgot what we say when we bow in and out of class

Stance

Left, left, right
from stance, bounce twice on left foot, one on right foot

Low kick
Step with your foot pointing to side then kick

Left low kick
Step your right foot forward and pointing to side

Speed bag
You let it bounce 3 times then hit

Jab, right hook elbow
-Step in to jab, throw elbow
-it's a slashing elbow

Jab, left hook elbow
- step in to jab, step in again to elbow
- it's a slashing elbow

Right up elbow
- You go forward too, not just up
- On heavy bag, makes sense to go more fwd into it then to slice upward all the way

Knees and elbows while sparring

Per the tall skinny guy at kru m class,
-You don't always have to elbow the head. Sometimes you elbow the forearm if he's blocking or if they are in the way
- pivot and throw an elbow. Pivoting counter clockwise and doing a right hook elbow was working for me.

The cross/rainbow elbow made a lot of sense for me today because you usually gave to get past their guard even if they aren't specifically blocking elbows.

The idea of attacking the left side then finishing with a power right worked really well. I would throw like two left kicks and a left knee or two then finish with a right elbow. It was usually a cross elbow even though I walked in today expecting it to be a right hook elbow. I think it's because when I throw the knee, I am off center to the right and pulling down on his neck so he's bent over.

Update on # 1 - 6

#4 and 5
Per kru and judo guy,
The first elbow is not an up elbow.
It is an "angle" elbow, diagonal upward.

Per kru,
- angle elbows hand clears his forearm for the axe elbow
- you pull your axe elbow hand back as you throw the angle elbow

# 1, 2, 3
Per judo guy
- Grab the back of the neck, not his trap
- take a step with the non-kneeing foot

#2
Per kru
Is for 1, overhand right

#3
Per kru
Is 1,H, then rhird one doesn't matter but it's a right punch

punch or kick

kru mark

one thing he said today during controlled sparring is if your weight is fwd, then punch. if your weight is leaning back, then kick.

teep
defend teep by catching it with a hook hand and pivoting to the outside
eg, he teeps with his left leg (your right side): use your left hand to catch his leg with a rotated c hook so that the hook is facing to the inside and the back of your hand is facing to the outside >>> simultaneously pass it to the inside, and step your left leg back and pivot 90 degrees on your right foot. he said to follow up with a right cross.

Mitt drill

From muay thai pads today

12, block hook, H2, inside leg kick, check kick to body

With partner I was alternating that with

12H2, block hook, H2, insidekick, check body kick

Good tip to throw kicks and check them is to always return to fighting stance after your combo

Fyi the pad progression by round today was
*boxing with leg check
*boxing and end with a kick
*boxing,  kick, leg check
*anything goes

*somewhere towards the end we did the 12,blockhook,H2 but I don't remember where exactly
